Eating Right with Thyroid Disease

Thyroid disease is more common than you might think, affecting over 27 million Americans. And believe it or not, your diet could have a lot to do with what thyroid symptoms you experience. Eating the right diet can make or break your health in the best of circumstances, and if you’re affected by thyroid problems, there are easy adjustments you can make to help support your thyroid. Eating foods with iodine or selenium may help correct deficiencies common in those who suffer from thyroid problems. And while there are plenty of other foods to incorporate into a healthy diet, hypothyroidism isn’t just about what you can eat to supplement your health, but also about which foods to avoid so as not to make symptoms worse. Caffeine, for instance, can worsen fatigue, a symptom already prevalent in thyroid disease.
