Magnesium is an essential mineral, but it’s not often in the spotlight. Most of the conversation around vitamins and minerals as they relate to health revolves around vitamins, with maybe the occasional mention of calcium and iron. But magnesium? What does magnesium even do for your body? Well, in addition to handling a startlingly high number of essential bodily processes, such as regulating bone growth and maintaining muscle, nerve, and heart health, you might be surprised to know that magnesium can actually help treat high blood pressure. That’s right, researchers at the University of Indiana recently compiled more than thirty studies about magnesium and high blood pressure, and they found that people who took magnesium supplements showed a larger decrease in their blood pressure than people who took placebos.
