Chronic Inflammation in the Body and What to Do About It

Inflammation sometimes has a negative connotation, but it is a crucial part of the body’s attempt at self-protection and self-healing. Its job is to eliminate damaged cells or pathogens and begin the healing process. When something irritating or destructive affects a part of the body, there is a biological response to remove it. Inflammation is part of a healthy immune response, but when it becomes chronic, the inflammatory response can go awry and wreak havoc on cells and internal organs. Chronic inflammation is widely believed to be at the root of many different serious diseases, including depression, rheumatoid arthritis, and even heart disease. One of the most common causes of inflammation is stress. Other factors can include a poor diet, smoking, exposure to toxins, and poor dental health, among others. Living a healthy lifestyle can go a long way in promoting a healthy inflammatory response, as can getting hormones back in balance. Read more…
