Migraine Headaches May Increase With Age as Hormone Levels Decline

Hormones Can Be a Headache... Literally!

In general, migraine headaches are much more common in women than in men. But the symptoms in men and women are similar—blurred vision, nausea, upset stomach, and fatigue, along with some numbness or tingling in the hands. Eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water can help. Trying to limit alcohol intake and reducing processed foods and caffeine may be of benefit as well. In men, migraines or cluster headaches can often be attributed to low testosterone (low T) levels. With age, testosterone levels start to decline in men. Low hormone levels may not only trigger migraine headaches but can also affect overall wellbeing. Some men may experience an increase in body fat and a reduction in muscle mass and strength, and impotency may also appear. Taking steps to regain hormonal balance may help to curb migraine headaches and restore overall health. Read more…
