If you own a wearable fitness tracker yet can’t seem to be losing the weight that you’d hoped to, there could be a reason why. As recently found in a Journal of the American Medical Association study, the gadgets may not actually be as effective as previously imagined. Some reasons for that could be that they can inflate your sense of accomplishment and lead to overeating or, on the opposite end, make you feel like you’re not accomplishing enough and discourage you from continuing with your goal. Regardless, the study found that participants who exercised and dieted using a simple self-report website actually managed to lose more weight than participants who wore a wearable tracker.
